British Bonefish: Mullet on the Fly
showcasing UK anglers chasing mullet on the fly, a cool new fishery

September 2025
You may be thinking this doesn't fit with the credo "Due West", but everything is West if you take the long way around!
For anyone familiar with our 2023 extended series on Overcrowding, especially part 6 "New Horizons in Angling", we highlighted innovative anglers chasing fish in nontraditional fisheries. Each time I come across information about novel new fisheries I can't contain my excitement. Whatever it is, book me a ticket, I'm in.
As a late addition, I recently stumbled across videos following Londoners chasing after mullet, using trout-sized worm and shrimp flies. Yes, mullet… I'm most familiar with mullet as the trickster species responsible for fooling me into thinking they’re something else, like a tarpon or bonefish. But mullet are a diverse family, and across the pond, where traditional trout opportunities are sometimes limited, anglers have figured out how to fool new species. Some mullet even push 5+ pounds.
This isn't news for UK anglers, but definitely off the radar for many others, like myself. Cheers Fly Fishing Londoners, for showcasing fly fishing in this unique venue.
Who wants to go London? Or maybe you have mullet around you already.
