Weird Flies That Work: Perdiworm
Another weirdo that works great!
April 2025
At first glance, my mind immediately went to stillwater. I've never had any issues with a traditional San Juan for river fishing, and when a river fish wants a worm, anglers have plenty of options. But on lakes, something about this fly just clicked.

Not only would the perdiworm function as a worm, but also as a blood worm/chironomid cluster. Even as an species-less attractor! Tied on a jigged chassis, this fly would work great as an anchor fly under an indicator, or hunting cruisers under a dry fly. At least that was my hope.
During the first round of testing I actually fished it as a tag, where the anchor was a balanced leech, both under a barrel swivel and indicator. The added weight from the perdiworm helped my rig fish deeper over wind-chop, and improved my catch rate after I made the change to the perdiworm. Can't wait for alpine season; under a hopper, this fly should be fun!

As annoying as the Fly Fish Food video intros are, they have some good patterns. The perdiworm is one weird fly that simply works.
